Student Registration

LATE Registration for the 2018-2019 school year Starts on August 29

Visit your neighbourhood school to register. Guardianship information, proof of address and citizenship, as well as educational records and/or documents are required at the time of registration. Check below for more information, specific to grade or program.

Students will register for English programs at the school serving the area (neighbourhood) in which they reside. Students who live in an area of eligibility for Early French Immersion will register at the French Immersion designated school that serves their neighbourhood.

Primary Program

  • A child must have reached his/her fifth birthday on or before December 31, 2018.

  • Parents/guardians must present the child's proof of age, legal name (as listed on birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, legal name change certificate or adoption documents), proof of residency (such as a current utility bill, lease agreement, etc.), Nova Scotia Health Card (MSI) number and expiry date at the time of registration.

  • Each school will publicize its dates for primary orientation.

Early French Immersion Program (Grade Primary)

  • The Early French Immersion Program begins in Grade Primary and is guaranteed to students who live within areas of eligibility of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.

Late French Immersion (Grade Seven)

  • The Late French Immersion Program begins in Grade 7 and is guaranteed to students who live within areas of eligibility of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
     
  • For further information regarding eligibility, click here, access the Home Address Lookup feature under "About our Schools" on this website, or contact the principal of your neighbourhood school.

Out of Area Requests

  • Parents/guardians may seek placement for their child in a school outside of the neighbourhood in which they reside under the guidelines of the Student Registration Policy.

  • Parents/guardians may obtain an Out-of-Area Request form at their child's neighbourhood school. Once completed, parents/guardians must forward the Out-of-Area Request form to the requested school on the first school day in April starting at 8:00 a.m.

  • Alternatively, parents/guardians may complete the online Out-of-Area Request form at www.hrsb.ca beginning on on the first school day in April at 8:00 a.m. The electronic submission is automatically sent to the receiving school. Instructions on completing the online option can be found here.

What is Pre-Primary?

Provincial Pre-Primary Program: September 2017 – June 2018

The current Pre-Primary locations for the 2017-2018 school year are:

  5. Hillside Park Elementary
  6. Joseph Howe Elementary

Provincial Pre-Primary Program Expansion for 2018-19

On March 7, 2018, the provincial government announced that Pre-Primary would be offered in the following new locations in 2018-2019:

  1. Atlantic Memorial-Terence Bay School (Pre-Primary Program will be offered at Atlantic Memorial site)
  2. Bicentennial School
  3. Brookhouse Elementary
  4. Central Spryfield Elementary
  5. Chebucto Heights Elementary
  6. East St. Margaret’s Elementary
  7. George Bissett Elementary
  8. Humber Park Elementary School
  9. Inglis Street Elementary School
  10. Musquodoboit Valley Education Centre
  11. Ross Road School
  12. Sambro Elementary School
  13. Sir Charles Tupper Elementary School
  14. Springvale Elementary School
  15. Upper Musquodoboit Consolidated School
  16. William King Elementary School

Registration

  • Registration for the new Pre-Primary Programs will begin on March 19, 2018.
     
  • To be eligible, a child must have reached his/her fourth birthday on or before December 31, 2018 and live within the catchment area of the school offering the program. Children who would attend the Terence Bay site of Atlantic Memorial - Terence Bay Elementary can register for the program at Atlantic Memorial.
     
  •  Registration takes place at each school.
     
  • Parents/guardians must present the child's proof of age, legal name (as listed on birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, legal name change certificate or adoption documents), proof of residency (such as a current utility bill, lease agreement, etc.), Nova Scotia Health Card (MSI) number and expiry date at the time of registration.

Children being registered for grade Primary must be 5 years of age on or before December 31, 2018 and parents/guardians must show a Birth Certificate verifying this to school personnel.
