Update for families: End of CUPE job action

Update for families: End of CUPE job action

Families,

I am pleased to share that members of CUPE 5047 have voted to accept the tentative agreement and the strike has ended, effective immediately.

What does this mean for families?

All Pre-Primary children and students who have not been able to safely attend without EPAs at work, can return to school on Monday, June 19.

The following staff members will return to our schools:

  • African Nova Scotian Student Support Workers
  • Assistive Technology Support Workers
  • Child and Youth Care Practitioners
  • Early Childhood Educators
  • Educational Program Assistants
  • Library Support Specialists
  • Mi’kmaw/Indigenous Student Support Workers
  • SchoolsPlus Community Outreach Workers

We recognize that it may not be school as usual. Our focus in the coming days will be on reconnecting with students and staff who have been absent.

If you have any questions about your child’s transition back to school, please contact your school principal.

Transportation

Starting Monday, all transportation for children impacted by the strike will resume at regularly scheduled times in the morning and afternoon.

You can check busing times by logging into the BusPlanner Parent Portal. If you have questions or need help logging in, please email transportation@hrce.ca or call 902-431-4723.

We know this has been a difficult experience for families and staff across our system. Our school communities have not been the same since the job action began and we are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back.

All the best,

Steve Gallagher
Regional Executive Director
