Become a Host Family, Help an International Student

The Nova Scotia International Student Program has launched Bring Home the World, a campaign to bring more awareness about opportunities to host students to more families and communities across the province.

International Services is looking for warm and caring host families for international students attending schools within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.

Hosting a student is an exciting adventure that enriches your family's life and brings a world of new ideas and experiences right to your doorstep.

  • Host families receive a tax-free, monthly stipend ($775) to help cover hosting expenses;
  • Students stay for periods of three to 10 months;
  • Ongoing support is provided by a Homestay Coordinator;
  • You will learn about and communicate with your student before their arrival; and
  • Monthly cultural events for the students often include invitations to host families.

Host families are required for students who are in Grades 7 to 12.
